<P><STRONG>（法新社新加坡21日電） 法院文件與被告律師今天表示，一名美國商人因為在新加坡逾期居留近半年，可能被判處鞭刑。</STRONG></P>
<P><BR><STRONG>若違反新加坡移民法遭到定罪，37歲的美國公民查爾頓（Kamari Kenyada Charlton）將成為16年來首位在新加坡被處以鞭刑的美國人。</STRONG></P>
<P><BR><STRONG>查爾頓委任律師拉維（M. Ravi）表示，出生巴哈馬的查爾頓，於9月1日在新加坡樟宜機場打算出境時遭到逮捕。</STRONG></P>
<P><BR><STRONG>法新社見到的起訴書內容是，查爾頓在3個月旅遊簽證於<SPAN class=t_tag onclick=tagshow(event) href="tag.php?name=201">201</SPAN>0年3月15日到期後，又在新加坡逾期居留了169天。</STRONG></P>
